Información financiera actualizada para 2008

Noticias de Rotary International
Enero de 2009

Estimados rotarios:

RI president Message

January 2009

Dear fellow Rotarians,

January marks the beginning of the second half of the Rotary year. It’s a time to look back on what we’ve accomplished so far, to assess our progress, and to renew our determination to achieve our goals in the months remaining. It’s a time to discuss and evaluate the goals of our clubs as well as the goals we’ve set for ourselves as Rotarians.

January is also Rotary Awareness Month, a time for us to consider how our Rotary values – and our own actions – influence public perceptions of Rotary. Our strategic plan outlines five core values that define and guide us as we chart a course into our second century of service.

Service is our first value, as it should be. Our focus on service is reflected in our primary motto, Service Above Self. Through our clubs and districts, we have the potential to create better, safer, and healthier communities, one project at a time.

Fellowship is the reason Rotary was founded over 100 years ago. The friendship, the camaraderie, and the wonderful sense of doing something good together is what keeps us all looking forward to our Rotary meetings week after week.

Diversity is an aspect of Rotary that becomes more important with every passing year. We have just welcomed to Rotary the Republic of Kiribati, which joins the more than 200 countries and geographical areas already on the Rotary map. I look forward with all Rotarians to a day when there is a Rotary club in every community in the world.

Integrity is fundamental to our organization’s identity. Every Rotarian is a guardian of the reputation that generations of Rotarians have worked to build. When we maintain the highest ethical standards in all of our dealings, we strengthen the trust that allows us to serve more effectively.

But it will only happen if we show leadership, the fifth, and final, core value. Each of us must remember, with our every action, that we are Rotarians. When we are chosen to become Rotarians, and when we choose to accept that honor, we take it upon ourselves to become representatives of the entire organization.

When we are known as Rotarians, then everything we do reflects upon us all. By living by our core values and committing to Service Above Self, we build a stronger Rotary and a better world for all.

Message from the chair -- Promote our Foundation’s good work

Dear family of Rotary,

If the general public were aware of half of the good work our Rotary Foundation does, I’m convinced we would be inundated with contributions and prospective members. That’s why one of our goals for 2008-09 is to work with Rotary International to enhance our public image.

How can we do this? One way is by working with local media to publicize our humanitarian projects. Make sure that people in the communities where we work know that The Rotary Foundation and local Rotarians are behind that new water well or health clinic or school.

Publicize the international projects your club is sponsoring with Foundation grants. Invite the media to meet with a visiting Group Study Exchange team or an Ambassadorial Scholar studying in your community. All of us have inspirational Rotary stories to tell. Let’s make sure we share them with others.

In recent years, our Foundation’s presence on the international stage has grown enormously, thanks to our role in global polio eradication. It’s time to bring the news of our achievements to the local level. January is Rotary Awareness Month, an excellent time to inform our communities about the many ways that The Rotary Foundation is doing good in the world.

Nueva Guia para la Planeación Estratégica en la WEB

Rotary International News
29 Diciembre 2008

New strategic planning guide available online

Rotary International News -- 29 December 2008

New this month is an online tool for clubs to create a strategic plan. The Strategic Planning Guide is available in nine languages and provides worksheets and information to help clubs set goals and develop a plan to implement them.

The process of creating a strategic plan should be run by a group of club leaders and should involve all members, including past, current, and future club leaders. The guide helps clubs create a vision of where they would like to be in three years and to develop long-range and annual goals that support that vision.

The guide also emphasizes the importance of regular evaluation of the goals and vision and adjusting the strategic plan as needed. Although this new tool was created for clubs, it can be adapted for district strategic planning. Clubs are encouraged to align their strategic plans with those of their districts and RI.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

MUCHAS GRACIAS,

Milqueya Portes
Gobernadora.-

New e-mail scam

Rotary International News
December 2008

There are several e-mail scams that target Rotarians.

Please be aware of the following scams:

An e-mail from "UFAAIDS" requesting personal information in exchange for a job position as a "U.S. UFAAIDS-Rotary District 8080-Donations Co-ordinator."

A request via e-mail for a $5 donation to list your Interact club on a Web site. This Web site is not affiliated or in any way associated to Rotary International.

An e-mail that claims that a Rotarian has "emerged a recipient of our Rotary International improvement Grant Programs." It goes on to say that the recipient was selected from an "exclusive" database of more than 800 million individuals and corporate bodies. The e-mail then gives a fake a batch number and contact information for a "cash prize."

Another scam e-mail claims that a deceased Rotarian has left money to the e-mail recipient to be donated to philanthropic efforts. The sender, who claims to be the executor of the will, then asks for the recipient’s personal information in order to claim the inheritance.

Another e-mail scam from a fake Rotary club claims that the recipient won a sum of US$ 700,000. The e-mail states that the winnings can't be transferred in the recipient's home country and that they must share an active bank account for deposit of "cash prize".

Rotary International does not solicit funds through e-mail, nor does it ask that personal information be updated by e-mail or other electronic means. RI encourages Rotarians and Rotary clubs to avoid becoming victims of such scams by deleting any e-mail that appears suspicious.
