New e-mail scam. Nuevos Fraudes por Internet

Rotary International has learned about a new e-mail scam targeting Rotarians. (RI ha detectado un nuevo tipo de fraude por correo electrónico que afecta los rotarios)

The scam e-mail claims that a deceased Rotarian has left money to the e-mail recipient to be donated to philanthropic efforts. (La estafa en cuestión consiste en decir que un Rotario fallecido le ha dejado una gran cantidad de dinero para ser utilizado en fines filantrópicos). The sender, who claims to be the executor of the will, then asks for the recipient’s personal information in order to claim the inheritance. (La persona que envía el correo dice ser el ejecutor del testamento y le pide entonces una gran cantidad de información personal para supuestamente reclamar la herencia).

Rotary International does not solicit funds through e-mail, nor does it ask that personal information be updated by e-mail or other electronic means. RI encourages Rotarians and Rotary clubs to avoid becoming victims of such scams by deleting any e-mail that appears suspicious.
