Dear Friends

This is a reflection on being humble.

Sometimes, human beings feel powerful and invulnerable, and we forget the fact that we are ephemeral.

In history and mythology we find myriad of characters, all of them important, strong and beautiful, who at a certain point pretended to be immortal and then found out, as Aquiles in Troy or Balder “The Beautiful” in Norwegian sagas, that all of them were vulnerable.

We are here because we are winner, because we have done real our dreams.

We are here because our friends have chosen us to fulfill a role in the Rotary world.

President, Director, Governor, Trustee, Chairman, are nothing but modifiers that will be used with our names only temporarily, until the end of our term.

I encourage you to remember this.

Such position are transitory honors that will during a period in which everybody’s eyes will be set in our actions and w will become extremely vulnerable.

During such time there will be many people, more than we ever imagined, who will

keep track our words and, above all, or our actions.

A position is just a chance to serve others and brings about tremendous responsibility since our actions or our omissions a pattern that other people might follow.

Let us always remember that we are vulnerable and that will render us humble.

Let us take into account that the title and honors ,which are part of our position, will be with us for a year, or maybe two, or even four years but being past officers and memories of how we interacted with others, of the kind of services we provide……That will stay with us for de rest of our lives…..

Maybe with a bit of luck and with a lot, really a lot of work, we will remain in the memories of those whom we helped on “Make Dreams Real”
