Rotary, Gates make news worldwide

The 21 January announcement that Rotary accepted a second challenge grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which will generate US$555 million for polio eradication, has received media attention from news organizations worldwide, resulting in more than 300 news stories.

The broadcast news coverage was also significant, including the BBC Network and more than 40 TV news stories across the United States. The TV audience in the United States was approximately 2.1 million viewers.*The day after the announcement, press outreach was conducted by the National PolioPlus committees in Nigeria and India resulting in national media coverage in both countries.
